Company Directors to walk the islands in 48 hours for Guernsey Mind

Two company directors from the Gower Group will be ‘walking the Bailiwick’ at the end of May to raise money for Guernsey Mind. Scott Rowe’s personal challenge to walk over 60 miles around the 4 Bailiwick islands in 48 hours captured the imagination of colleague, friend and fellow Director, Rob Boyd, himself a veteran of several ‘Round the Island’ walks, that he decided to show his support in kind and participate as well!

The pair are planning to take up the challenge on 27 and 28 May when they tackle Alderney, Sark and Herm on Day 1, with the bigger task of navigating Guernsey falling on Day 2. Transport between the islands will be provided by friend, Troy Queripel, and his boat! ‘I wanted to push myself with a challenge that would require determination and physical stamina – and at the same time raise funds for a worthwhile cause’, said Scott Rowe. ‘Sadly, a close family member took their own life last year, so I am very conscious of the impact that mental illness can have and the importance of raising awareness that it is ok not to be ok, which is why I am supporting Guernsey Mind.’ Colleague Rob Boyd was so impressed with the challenge that he decided to give not only his own support but to get involved personally and take part himself. ‘Guernsey Mind is a great cause and it’s a pleasure to support Scott with his challenge. The selected charity has helped many Islanders, particularly given the increased levels of mental illness attributed to the restrictions suffered by so many during both lockdowns.’

Guernsey Mind is a local charity that supports the people of the Bailiwick, encourages a positive attitude towards mental health (and supporting mental well being).

A Just Giving page has been set up by Scott Rowe in order to fundraise towards his chosen charity and help make the efforts worthwhile. Justgiving.com/fundraising/scott-rowe1
